SCVAA Basketball Program Offerings

Commitment to Fun, Fundamentals, and Team Development

The St. Croix Valley Athletic Association (SCVAA) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization offering fee-based athletic programs designed to promote skill-building, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a supportive and structured environment. Our basketball program serves youth from Kindergarten through 8th grade and prioritizes player development over competition, especially at the younger levels. Team assignments are typically based on school affiliation, but adjustments may be made due to roster limits and coach availability.

Program Structure

K/1st Grade Basketball

  • A fun and safe introduction to the sport, focused on movement and foundational skills
  • Held on Saturdays, beginning mid-January and running for six weeks
  • The first five weeks focus on camp-style skills training
  • The final session features organized games to apply what players have learned

2nd Grade Basketball

  • A transitional year introducing structured games in a low-pressure setting
  • Players meet once per week, alternating between practice and 3-on-3 gameplay
  • Season runs from mid-November through mid-February
  • Extended season to allow more development time

3rd–6th Grade Basketball

  • Full in-house league format with weekly practices and Saturday games
  • Paid referees officiate all games to ensure consistency and learning
  • Teams may participate in a year-end tournament, depending on schedule and availability
  • Season runs from mid-November through late February

Girls Basketball (3rd–8th Grade)

  • In-house league format (non-travel), based on registration numbers
  • Follows the same structure as 3rd–6th grade
  • Includes paid referees and a potential year-end tournament

Coaching Support

  • Access to online resources, videos, books, and clinics to support player development
  • SCVAA emphasizes coach education to ensure a rewarding experience for both players and volunteers

  • Team Formation Goals:
    • We strive to create teams based on community and school connections
    • Facility constraints, coaching availability, and team capacities all play a role in team placement
    • Timely registration ensures priority consideration for team placement
  • If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact our commission members listed on this website. We appreciate your involvement and support in making SCVAA Basketball a rewarding experience for all participants!

Volunteer with the SCVAA Basketball Program

The SCVAA Basketball program is powered entirely by volunteers. Without the dedication of parents and other adults, this program wouldn’t be possible.

We invite you to help make a difference by volunteering at either the organizational level or during practices and games. Whether you can assist with planning, coaching, or simply supporting kids on the court, every contribution matters.

The more parents involved, the better the experience for everyone!

For more information or to volunteer, please contact the SCVAA Basketball Coordinator at: basketball@scvaa.org
