SCVAA Softball Program Overview

Commitment to Fun, Teamwork, and Skill Development

The St. Croix Valley Athletic Association (SCVAA) is a non-profit, fee-based, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to providing structured and positive youth athletic experiences. The goal of our softball program is to foster skill development, sportsmanship, and confidence while ensuring a fun and inclusive atmosphere for all participants. While efforts are made to form teams based on school affiliation, final rosters are determined by registration timing, available space, and coach availability.

Program Structure:

K/1st Grade Softball

  • A gentle introduction to softball focused on fun, fundamentals, and friendships
  • Weekly sessions held Friday evenings, combining practice and a scrimmage
  • All players participate equally — no standings, no pressure

Recreational Softball (2nd–3rd Grade)

  • Emphasis on learning basic rules, developing core skills, and fostering teamwork
  • Teams meet twice per week: one practice and one game
  • Games remain coach-led with a strong focus on player development

Upper Division Softball (4th–8th Grade)

  • Teams participate in a structured league with umpired games
  • Play includes home and away matchups against other SCVAA teams and possibly neighboring communities
  • One weeknight practice and one weeknight game each week

High School Age Softball (9th–12th Grade)

  • Players compete in the NSPAA League, combining with teams from other local programs
  • Games are structured and officiated under modified high school rules
  • Teams play one to two games per week, with practice schedules set by coaches

Important Dates (Weather Permitting)

  • Practices Begin: Week of April 8
  • Games Begin: Week of May 6
  • Softball Jamboree/Tournament:
    • Grades K–3: Weekend of July 13–14
    • Grades 4–12: Weekend of July 20–21

Team Formation & Scheduling

  • Team Assignments: Based on school, registration order, and coach availability
  • Practice Nights: Finalized after the Coaches’ Meetings (April, Date TBD)
  • Coaches’ Equipment Pickup: Scheduled for April (exact date TBD)

SCVAA Softball Programs Are Run by Volunteers

The SCVAA Softball program is powered entirely by volunteers. Without the dedication of parents and other adults, this program wouldn’t be possible.

We invite you to help make a difference by volunteering at either the organizational level or during practices and games. Whether you can assist with planning, coaching, or simply supporting kids on the field, every contribution matters.

The more parents involved, the better the experience for everyone!

For more information or to volunteer, please contact the SCVAA Softball Coordinator at: softball@scvaa.org
