| We have seven board members who have been working very hard to develop the basketball programs that we will offer the Stillwater youth this year. As commissioner, I am very excited about the programs we are assembling and the improvements we plan to make. Let me quickly summarize: |
| Program offerings: |
- Kindergarten and 1st grade basketball program is offered starting January 29, 2010 and runs for six weeks. Registration for K-1 close January 21, 2011.
- Grade 2 will play once per week, alternating between practices and games. The season will begin November 8th, 2010 and conclude February 19th, 2011.
-
Grades 3rd thru 6th will use paid referees, have one practice and one game per week (Saturday), and have a year-end tournament. Each grade will have its own league and grades will not be combined. We have joined forces with Mahtomedi so some games will be against teams from Mahtomedi and you will travel to their gym site. Season November 9th , 2010 to February 26, 2011.
-
Grades7/8, 9/10 & 11/12 will play in the Maplewood rec league (EMRL) Teams will be practicing 1 night a week and will play games on Saturdays or Sundays.
** The EMRL league includes rec teams from Maplewood, Oakdale, White Bear, etc., plays its games on weekends, has a longer season (Nov 15 ?March 1). Note: The EMRL league has not finalized their schedules, so the actual days and dates could change. |
| Improvements: |
- The length of the season for 2nd grade in-House leagues is longer.
-
We will utilize paid referees in the 3rd thru 6th grade In-house leagues. We have combined with Mahtomedi for these grades to offer a program with no combined grades for forming teams.
-
K/1 program has expanded from 4 weeks to 6 weeks this year.
-
We will have a year-end tournament for the 3rd thru 6th grades.
-
The INFO-LINE (439-9589) will be better attended. Although still manned by volunteers, our goal is to respond within 24 hours.
- Improved Coaching. We will provide coaches with helpful web sites, books, videos and clinics.
- The EMRL teams will play some home games at the Stillwater Armory or St Croix Prep.
- ONLINE registration will be available on this web site beginning Sept. 13th. 2010.
- The SCVAA web site will be the focal point of all basketball information for the Stillwater area. We are working with the varsity high school coaches, traveling organizations, Junior High’s and other organizations to put key dates, camps, events and other web links on our web site. Check back often!!

One of our goals is to form community/school based teams. Many factors, including facility constraints, coaching volunteers and team capacities go into the team selection process. Accurate and timely registration information enables us to do a better job of forming these teams; therefore, we encourage you to register promptly. Priority will definitely be given to those who register on time!
If you have questions, comments or suggestions, please contact any of our commission members. They are listed, with their responsibilities, in this website. | |
